Am I missing something in this post? A very successful sports program which dicusses morals names their center after Colin Powell,so what. We have the humphrey dome also supported by most dflers at the time despite a large publc outcry. They can't distribute pamphlets through the schools but neither could that radical group the boy scouts. I think its time for parents to take reponsibility for their children, if something comes home read it join it or throw it away. You don't want your child playing sports with a certain group don't let them. Much of this complaining resembles the snotty kid who takes his ball home, if I don't like it no one can play. We should embrace anything that helps kids become better. Dain Lyngstad Edina/Phillips
Urban Ventures doesn't just "discuss morals" - it tries to push their particular brand of religion on kids who come from diverse religious backgrounds. Some jewish parents sent their kids to the Urban Ventures soccer program - only to have the kids to come home - having been served pork and also having Jesus pushed on them.
Urban Ventures was also part and parcel of that failed Basim Sabri Motel Scheme (which was what brought former council member Brian Herron down).
The Boy Scouts has gotten lots of publicity about their policy discriminating against Gays. They also discriminate against athiests. They were also found to be a private organization under the Dale Supreme Court decision. If they are a private organization, they should not expect to get public funding.
What's interesting is that Boy Scout Councils - which would like to have an inclusive policy get disciplined and threatened by the reactionary national organization.
Certainly in a deficit budget environment, and organization like Urban Ventures should not get state funding.
