Gov. Ventura decided to veto the Colin Powell Center when he was informed that it was intended for a religious ministry. The discussion was never about the ministry itself.
Gov. Ventura felt strongly that religious ministries should not be given or loaned monies by the state of Minnesota. When Jesse Ventura was governor, he line item vetoed the Urban Vultures Colin Powell Youth Center - after Central Residents called his office and requested that he do so.
