I know for a fact they were not just teaching morals - they were pushing Jesus and Christianity BIG time - I know two Jewish children this happened to (one of them is the one who blew the whistle by saying something to her mother who obviously became livid). She found out about the program through a flyer in the schools.
WM: This is a really disturbingly written "story." I know this story, having heard it from the mother of the two traditional Jewish children.
This family lives a couple of blocks from Urban Ventures/Central Community Church. The mother signed the kids up for sports at this church. She was first outraged that they fed her children ham sandwiches. Think about this: a traditional Jewish family keeps kosher, as this family did. That means that virtually anything her kids ate at UV would be traif, or unclean. The meat dishes and the milk dishes were the same dishes, etc. etc.
Point being, why would you send your kosher family where they could not get kosher food under any circumstances? Most people don't know how to keep kosher, nor do they. This was a mother setting herself up for disappointment.
At a Christian church, one should not be surprised that they're pushin' their game. Unlike Jews, Christians and Moslems proselytize.
That was then, those kids are now graduating from high school, one may already be in college.
It is my understanding that currently Urban Ventures is stand alone, Central Community Church having moved. I haven't checked it out except to note that the last few Sundays, the parking lot has not been overburdened with cars as it formerly was.
This does not mean, by any stretch, that UV should have gotten any federal money. However, the Bushies announced long since that they were going to change the paradigm of 'separation of church and state,' which they appear to be doing. I think it was noted on Truth Out that of all those given federal grants under this new policy, not one was Moslem. That UV took advantage of the situation is only obvious. Al Quie is on their board.
