Given that I'm not an expert on non-profits, I am slightly confused. From what I can tell from the following IRS webpage,

http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=96099,00.html

it seems acceptable, and normal, for a religious organization to obtain 501(c)3 status.

Urban Ventures states its mission as follows:
To build successful community in our city through
developing youth leadership, strengthening families,
and creating viable work opportunities.

Besides, although I am not familiar with Urban Ventures, the above mission statement seems to contain desirable goals for Minneapolis. Please clarify for me what the problem is with them receiving public money - is it because their work utilizes a conservative message and not a liberal one?
