Notwithstanding the good intentions here, but don't you think the state policymakers will blow past the City Council's "Up-with-transit" codicil and only pay attention to the pro-bigger-highway part? I'm not sure how much these local votes matter in the end. It's my understanding that that the state can do what it wants with the highway, provided the legislature funds it. It's great that locals go on record, but their vote shouldn't be overrated. I'm no seer, but the cynic in me forecasts a legislative vote where many of the Minneapolis legislators vote no, but suburbanites vote yes, and prevail, and transit isn't part of the I-35W picture.
