I appreciate the efforts of both Ken and Chris to detail the issues regarding the
proposal. I would like one thing
clarified, please. I thought that hydroelectric power was first produced across the
river on the 'St. Anthony' side and
that the Minneapolis side was only mechanical hydro power.

The accurate historical information will be interesting but will not necessarily
crucial to approval of the project.
As someone on the list has pointed, just because something was done on a site before
doesn't mean it is a good idea to do
it again, running logs, etc. ( I have a chicken shed on the back of my south
Minneapolis lot, and my neighbor has been
very clear about what will happen to any little chicks that start running in an out of
the cute little door on her side of
the building - it is scheduled for demolition next month.)

Regardless of which side of the river hydroelectric was historically first
produced, the best place to do education
about it is in the Mill Ruins Museum. I was a little disappointed by the lack of
displays about the actual mechanics of
the water traces of the old mills - the museum is otherwise an extraordinary and
beautiful educational facility for all
ages.

I don't think we need to jeopardize the falls and ruins to do justice to the past.
