The 46th Street and Hiawatha intersection had time to show that it was screwed up before they started work on the Highway 5 bridge (July 6, I think.) The Ford bridge work probably reduces the number of vehicles going through 46th and Hiawatha.
Last night around 6, the westbound traffic on Minnehaha Parkway stretched back from 34th Avenue to the Hiawatha bridge.
How can we be certain this is all due to LRT? I have no doubt that adjustments need to be made but with all the construction going on I don't think we can get a definitive answer.
It seems to me that drivers play some role in congestion too.
By the way, on Monday and Tuesday I noticed that the southbound train stopped at 50th Street around 5:45 p.m. had only one car instead of two. Seems like there should be more demand during the heart of the rush.
The trains alternate between two cars and one. Trains heading into downtown last night were _jam_packed_ with aquatennial participants. It was like June 26 all over again.
This morning I drove in a little later and I only saw one-car trains. I'm guessing this switch is made after rush hour is over.
