The discussion of the smoking ban is very interesting. The ban is based on the allegation that second hand smoke is dangerous. Various people came forward with impassioned statements to this effect, but I don't recall there being any facts, real facts, used in support. In other words they sounded terrific, scared everyone to death, panicked the city council, (which was too easy to do) and now have a law they can embrace. Of course, the second hand smoke issue is phony. It is the Weapons of Mass Destruction issue of the Iraq war. The supporters of the smoking ban used the same tactics to get this bill passed that were used to send us into Iraq. I have really enjoyed the smoking ban discussion, especially the fact that our council members admit to counting their e-mail and voting accordingly. The Japanese internment issue was very appropriate in that it was supported by the majority of voters polled. What else do we need in our Democracy but e-mail voting. If the council simply counts the e-mails and follows that lead, we really don't need them anymore.
