Well, it would be in the public health's best interest for government (us) to ban ALL handguns, yet they choose not to. It would indeed be in the public health's best interest to ban the sale of alcohol, the sale of tobacco, the sale of sexually demeaning material. Yet they choose not to.

As a private, for-profit business, Sex World exists and I choose not to frequent it. Most building inspectors, architects, designers and general contractors would tell you that eating establishments are more than adequately vented to handle the issue of "second hand smoke" in restaurants. As far as bars go, I have no sympathy for non-smokers that want to hang-out in bars and have a smoke-free environment.

Personally, I sense a mixed signal from the City Council and the Mayor.

Public health. Public health Public health.

It is government's business to protect the public health and it occasionally
comes at the expense of complete freedom to operate a licensed privately
owned business. If you hate government, you will never accept these
decisions.

Government is you. Government is not some amorphous blob ready to smother
citizens and soak up their money. We elect our government, then pay it to
protect us and to provide services that ensure everyone gets treated fairly
and safely - by anyone, including anyone who would do potential harm through
their business practices.

You are the government. I am the government. Hate government, hate yourself.
Don't like what it does? Throw the rascals out. You say you've tried? And
failed? Never mind. This is a democratic republic - from Minneapolis on up
to the feds. Our system means we accept the outcome of elections and work on
the next one.
