The discussion of the smoking ban is very interesting. The ban is based on the allegation that second hand smoke is dangerous. Various people came forward with impassioned statements to this effect, but I don't recall there being any facts, real facts, used in support. In other words they sounded terrific, scared everyone to death, panicked the city council, (which was too easy to do) and now have a law they can embrace. Of course, the second hand smoke issue is phony.

Apparently Mr. Griffith only just started reading the Minneapolis Issues list with regards to the smoking issue in the past week or so. Many weeks ago I posted several hard, factual messages about the many dangers of second-hand smoke.

The facts are these: every harmful chemical (of which there are many dozen and several dozen which are known carcinogens) present in inhaled smoke is present in side-stream or second-hand smoke. Many of those harmful chemicals are present in larger amounts than in the inhaled smoke -- possibly because the act of drawing on the cigarette dilutes with drawn air and/or more completely oxidizes the combusting components.

If his intellect allows him to believe that the same harmful chemicals inhaled by the smoker become magically harmless when inhaled by someone else, then perhaps he can go on living in his fantasy world since clearly no amount of evidence or real factual data is going to change his mind. Or does he simply believe that smoking is not harmful to one's health? Another fantasy.
