Bernstein: Instead, there are a lot of folks who want to know that city leadership is focused on making Minneapolis a safer, cleaner, responsive, compassionate (but definitely not conservative) place to live and work.
Heller: We've been hearing this same story for decades - and it hasn't worked yet. Minneapolis keeps shrinking while the State keeps growing. Minneapolis population in 1950 was 521,718 (16% of the State) Minneapolis population in 2000 was 382,618 (7.8% of the State) Minnesota population in 1950 was 3,181,513 Minnesota population in 2000 was 4,919,479 What's wrong with this picture? City shrinks, spending and debts escalate (at a staggering pace). I hope a few competent candidates step forward with plans to reverse this trend.
