I have a question for all of you city-savvy list-ers. In a conversation with a
representative of the Rybak campaign the other day I was informed that the
formation of Project STOP will not result in the loss of officers in the 3rd
precinct where I live. What I don't understand is how it's possible to form a
roving task force for dealing with crime flare-ups (i.e. near north) without
leaving other areas of the city less well patrolled, unless there are new cops
replacing those task force members. The representative assured me that this
was in fact the reality, that we were not losing any cops in the 3rd precinct.
I guess the physics of how officers from the 3rd precinct can be working in the
4th and still be protecting me and my neighbors in the 3rd are beyond me. Do
they patrol at the speed of light? Any thoughts/additional information would
be appreciated.
IMOH this is the biggest issue we face in the 8th right now, perhaps in the
entire city. What I'm looking for from candidates are ideas for creating
efficiencies in city government that will allow us to do more (780 cops isn't
enough) with less (LGA might not return to previous levels anytime soon). I'd
like to encourage all delegates to bring this up with both mayoral campaigns as
they sprint towards the convention.
