The SCNotification process has to be stopped too. Also, we have had the ccmexec
process restart, so we always watch it for a few minutes and make sure both
processes don't restart. If you get the SMS Agent service paused or disabled
fast enough, it usually doesn't restart. We just had to remember to restart the
service at a later time.

We have only done this a handful of times, but it has worked every time for us.

Thanks.
Did not work in my case (Server 2003), I stopped SMS Agent Host service with no
effect on the restart countdown.

I think I may be a bit late to this thread... But wouldn't uninstall the CM
client stop the countdown? Obviously not a step to take for a large number of
servers, but if you have one or two that have the problem it is a quick fix.

Note: I haven't actually tried this, I'd prefer you do that... in production.

Worst case maybe try to find the culprit process and kill it. I assume it

Tried all but countdown persists.

I was on with Microsoft support when countdown started and he said there is no
way to stop it, but I was hopeful for a workaround.

Sent out emails and ready to take my lumps for unscheduled reboot.

Neither of these options work when the shutdown was initiated from ConfigMgr.

There was a big thread on this list a few months back about it. I'll see if I
can find it.

Once a shutdown has been initiated, these two will have no effect on it. The
system has already been issued a shutdown with a time. Only option is to abort
the shutdown with a shutdown /a

Is there a way to stop the restart?
