Yes, just 64K videoram wont be any good for VP9938 or 9958. So an upgrade is indeed required.
The CX5MII like the Spectravideo SVI 738 X'Press does have a 9938 MSX-2 videochip but only a MSX-1 BIOS/Basic ROM set and 64K videoram. But these machines are easy to upgrade by following the instructions to add videoram. And after that a 9958 makes sense too ! Instructions for adding videoram and upgrading the roms of the X'Press and CX5M to MSX-2 are on www.msxhans.msx2.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eric Boon" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, December 13, 2001 21:50 Subject: Re: [NL only!] Ordering V9958 VDP(s) > > > If anyone in the UK is thinking about obtaining some of these chips, send > > me a mail - I'm looking into doing a similar sort of thing for a UK order. > > A CX5MII/128 with a video chip two generations more advanced would be > > quite amusing :) > > Hm, just wondering: upgrading an MSX-1 (The CX5MII *is* an MSX-1, > right?) with a 2+ VDP, does that work?
