Can anyone think of any instance when a parent should be marked as completed when a child task is uncompleted? I really can't. If there is no reason why this should happen, then why not impose a restriction disallowing such a change with a message explaining why? That would be my solution.
But if there are concerns about losing functionality from MLO as a result of this, as an alternative I'd favour both Mark and Lisa's suggestions.
