I don't think there is a problem with the way you are doing it. Having
said that I would consider if some of these ad hoc tasks might be
better recorded as a status update against a planned project step
(recorded in the notes section if you were using MLO). If you had too
many of these ad hoc tasks you might also consider whether your
project plan was detailed enough and if they should be in the main
project (it's a bit like setting up a filing system and finding that
the "Miscellaneous" folder is bigger than the others put together). If
a lot of these ad hoc tasks derive from following up on something that
has been delegated, then a separate folder for each person in your
Outline could be useful. Finally, if you wanted to track all activity
by project, including ad hoc tasks, you could give them a project
context.
