Thanks for sharing the exact steps because I've never gotten around to
playing with this. Two comments:

–apparently my Evernote Windows is not set to notify of new updates
automatically. I apparently had a very old version.  I had the darndest
time finding the share menu -- it is only in the newer version, where it is
on the context menu for a note.

–Now I finally get that there is a difference between copying a note link,
which will link to the local version (if you put file: in front of it) and
 copying the note URL to the clipboard, which will lead to the web version.
