Perhaps there is an alsa-modules or alsa-source package? What version is your alsactl (type alsactl -v)? It should be 1.0.7.
Here's the alsactl version: alsactl version 1.0.7
I'll look for alsa-module and alsa-source. Would it be possible to uninstall the alsa rpms, and install alsa from source? I guess I would need alsa-drivers alsa-modules and alsa-utils? I attempted that before, but I didn't really put much effort into it. I hosed something, so I just reinstalled the OS and went with the rpms. That's of course before I discovered this issue with 1.0.6.
You should be able to compile the new alsa modules and replace the kernel's stock modules....
