Indeed, this is the base of the source that I mentioned earlier that I
had coming to me from a DirectFB developer (the G400 guru in fact).  I
just don't want to take on becoming the maintainer (mostly due to a lack
of time) of that seeing as I know nothing about the QT toolkit and next
to nothing of DirectFB.

Hrm.  Interesting thought.  There is an XDirectFB which is merely the
XFree86 (perhaps now X.org) X server ported to run on a DirectFB
surface.  I wonder how well XDirectFB would work on the DirectFB layer 2
(CRTC2/TV-out layer).  I will ask.  Maybe this is the best solution.
