I would just bet that letting the product cool down before you file the edge
off will make a world of difference.  While it is still warm you are
fighting a losing battle. You're pulling on it and it is stretching.  Put it
on all five or even ten (fingers or toes) and then go back and file the
first one off.  I bet it will go a little easier.

This is completely a hunch...knowing the material.  But let me know if I am
right.
