Dawn,
Don't stress. This time of year is always a big let down after the
holiday rush. I always take the free time as it comes. Spring will be here
before you know it and you will be slammed again. I have a cosmo lic. As well.
I do facial waxing as an add on. I also have been doing hair feather extensions
since last spring. Those only take a couple minutes. I promote pedi services
in "Theme" type pedis. Right now, for instance, I am promoting a chocolate
covered strawberry pedi. I also added some things last year that I do with my
fill services to add value to my nail services that they don't get at the walk
in places. I invested in a jewelry cleaner and my clients get their rings
cleaned while they get their fills. I give nail repairs (up to 3) free with
their fill in. In the winter I run 5.00 paraffin treatments as an add on. I do
it after the uv sealer-i can start my next client and let them sit with it for
15 min or and just pull off and they can go. I apply lotion to my fill clients
after I put the sealer on (not a hand massage, just a quick lotion app) I have
over the years tried to add value perception to my services and give them more
than they get at the other shops. Good luck and it will be ok.

Hi Everyone....
Now that the holidays are over.. I'm looking at my book....blah!! Yes
I know its a quiet time as people get back to reality from the
holidays but I need some help myself getting back my nail passion.
Part of me is kinda frustrated on the NSS salon competition... and
hearing clients that come in for hair etc..."well I just go down the
street for nails cuz its less money". I know this is competition that
won't go away and has been around for years. But lately I have seen a
decline of NEW clients, my old faithful clients are staying strong so
I would hate to say its because of my work, Ive been in the industry
for 16+ years and offer everything from Gel manicures/ pedis to Minx
to Pink and Whites/gels and acrylics and stay up on the latest. But
when I see people come in and drop money for eyelash extensions,
highlights and wear "those other" salons nails... I mean we all know
what they look like..its frustrating cuz they won't even give ya a
try. GRR. I mean why do we, who are well educated and have
certificates after certificates of extra trainings have to explain
ourselves but clients can easily walk in the other salons, sit down
and not ask a question cuz their prices are "cheaper".
Then Im thinking if I need to do something else to add to my nail
menu... I have my cosmetology license so my options are open for other
services... I just haven't picked up hair scissors in years... but
maybe extensions? Who knows... Does anyone else do something other
then nails in the salon?
Thanks for listening... sorry if im in a funk.
Much nail love!!
Dawn
