One of the long line of "exception to the rule" the 0Z4G is a cute little glass enclosed gas rectifier. AND the more common 0Z$ is actually the only Metal tube that will still work if you open the shell! inside is a small Glass bulb!

Attachment is a couple of paragraphs from the original data sheet.

The 0Z4 is an oldie but a goodie, having been introduced back in Oct 1935 by Raytheon. the 0Z4A version came out in 1956, so it is a long running production item.
