An easy eay to fix this problem is to install apt-get for rpm. Details can
be found at www.freshrpms.net.

KD} This was the case, basically. A lot of inconsistency between install

KD} install was significantly different and more detailed (in what packages
KD} could be selected) than the GUI install. The text based install provided a
KD} selection for sharutils. The GUI install does not. It appears if you
KD} initially install from the GUI install and don't select the "everything"

KD} selected everything from the "Packages" GUI I didn't get uudecode. It would
KD} appear that the only option would be to manually find the sharutils package
KD} on the CD and install it from the CLI (since RH 8.0 does not contain any GUI
KD} front end for RPM management like GnoRPM). If I select "everything" in the
KD} GUI (initially) I did get uudecode even though it is not listed as a part of
KD} any package.

KD} This is fairly common on redhat. Checking "everything" actually doesn't
KD} mean everything. I've seen in it several versions (I run a mirror, I
KD} deploy redhat boxes)
