Robert,

In the interest of time, since I need to get through this install process, I
decided to go ahead and run the `make install`. First I ran into a permission
problem with install-sh which was easily remedied and then I got the following
error:

"install: installed net-snmp-create-v3-user.1 in /usr/local/share/man/man1
/bin/sh: 0403-057 Syntax error at line 1 : `;' is not expected.
make: 1254-004 The error code from the last command is 2.

Stop.
make: 1254-004 The error code from the last command is 2.

Stop.
# "

Any further help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: RE: NET-SNMP Compile Errors

Just as your latest email below arrived I had completed a `make test` against
5.7.1.pre1. Leading up to that point, I got the following during the run of
`configure`:

"checking whether the Perl function system() invokes a POSIX shell... syntax
error at -e line 1, at EOF
Execution of -e aborted due to compilation errors.
./configure[6481]: : cannot execute
./configure[6481]: "');': unknown test operator
yes"

" checking libperfstat.h usability... no
checking libperfstat.h presence... yes
configure: WARNING: libperfstat.h: present but cannot be compiled
configure: WARNING: libperfstat.h: check for missing prerequisite headers?
configure: WARNING: libperfstat.h: see the Autoconf documentation
configure: WARNING: libperfstat.h: section "Present But Cannot Be Compiled"
configure: WARNING: libperfstat.h: proceeding with the compiler's result
configure: WARNING: ##
----------------------------------------------------##
configure: WARNING: ## Report this to
net-snmp-coders@lists.sourceforge.net##
configure: WARNING: ##
----------------------------------------------------##"

But it did complete its run.

I then ran `make` and it seemed to complete with no errors.

I next ran `make test` and while at first I had issues with execute permissions
below the testing directory, once I changed everything below testing to 777 it
seemed to run better. However the end result was that only "20 / 66
succeeded." It then gave two "Stop" errors with error codes "46" and "2"
respectfully and exited back to an AIX prompt.

Seems that something is still not right. Could it have to do with either of
the items quoted above from the configure run?

This has been fixed in 5.7.1.pre1, along with a few other important fixes. I
suggest you try it instead of 5.7.
