The American artworld gossip blogs I read always compare Hirst unfavourably to Koons. I think this is necessary in order to ignore the debt they both owe to German art of the 1970s. I loved Hirst's early art, and I think that his diamond skull will be re-evaluated in the coming decades. His painting won't (and nor will Koons', however much I love most of his sculpture). The irony of the cringeworthy multinational-teasing nationalism of """yBA""" art is that it slipstreams the art of the country of our least favourite national football team in a way that looks better in reproduction than in reality. - Rob. _______________________________________________ NetBehaviour mailing list [email protected] http://www.netbehaviour.org/mailman/listinfo/netbehaviour
