True.  But surely no-one is going to reinstall everything and then make do
with the older versions of the software.  they're gonna go and get the
updates again anyway .....

True, but say in 6 months time if (or when ;) my HD goes again, I'm gonna
install everything from the CD (or a backup, heaven forbid!) and then get
the latest updates without even running the versions from NC3.1 ....

Well, that's the theory ...
