I recovered by reinstalling 1.8 (from the Amiga Active CD, actually,
but the download is still available from Vapor in the CM 'Old'
directory. All my original data was intact after doing this.
I suspect that your problem is something to do with accounts and I
would suggest you copy the safety copies of files back to their
original subdirectories including the account subdirectories with the
account databases and then reinstall 1.8 over the top.
