I have been using Ubuntu for a year now. And Open Office. I paid a bomb
for my laptop, saved on the OS. I have no problems with OO. For me the
philosophy of FOSS was enough to jump from Windows.
BUT many of the hardware features do not work on my laptop. Please
remember that I do not know how to 'sudo', 'su' etc etc. The Ubuntu
Forums have been educative but it is not enough for people who do not
want to get into the tech part of FOSS.
I need help a call away. ITfC has been most helpful but we need more
people like that. If only somebody would sort my problems.
1. Am on Ubuntu 8.04. Am told that 9.10 will get all my hardware
functioning. I got my printer working with help from ITfC. How do I
upgrade to 9.10 without affecting those drivers?
2. Want to be able use the video facility on skype. Am not able to now.
3. Kannada on SCIM was working fine and then one day just went off!
Looked and looked on the Net to fix the problem. No success.
4. Want to connect my MP3 player, copy music etc...no luck!
5. Downloading photographs, videos from my Nokia phone...don't know how!
I am willing to pay for the service if someone would just come to my
office and sort all these issues. Koi hai?
BTW, I am all for FOSS and aggressively promoting it... :-) . All this
whining is amongst friends only.
Regards
Suparna
