Hi
We were invited to the national media fest orgnd by dept of journalism Karnatak
Univ, Dharwad . We wanted to initiate a few glugs there. We know of folks in
Belgaum but not here. If there is anyone do let us know.
cheers
senthil
1) We presented on the knwoledge commons and it was well received - we met
some blr sutdents , kerala students who wished us all success with the
movement. the kerala students were quick to point out the political will aspect
of kerala in implementing free soft and how this is absent in karnataka . the
debate was around sociology of technology and the importance of struggle for
policy level changes.
2) Teachers from mysore have invited us for sessions in mysore : workshop mode.
3) Anybody has contacts in univerities outside blr do let us know - especially
regions like Bijapur, Hyderabd Karnataka etc which have eng colleges but are
untouched by the free software debate, though we need to travel..its good to
take knowledge debate out of city centers.
4) We met the Karnatak University VC, Dr Saidapur . He has signed the document
supporting free software and knowledge freedom we will publish this soon. this
has been signed by writers like Barguru Ramachandrappa
3) We met 2 more prominent writers at the Bendre centre and they also signed
the document for free software. Got a chance to glimpse the river which was
inspiration for Bendre's poetry . Dharward seems to very rich culturally and
filled with writers and poets. Writer Kanvi , supposed to be among the top 5
writers signed the document on knowledge freedom.
4) We had very tasty aval akki in a modest looking L.E.A(Lingayat! Edu Assn)
canteen , A preparation made out of rice flakes, ghee, sugar and spices. the
tea was asp very tasty. There is some mumbai flavour as this is mumbai
karnataka . Also realized that jolatha roti is made out of johar which i have
never seen so far as its not used usually in t.n [ thought this is is maize
based]
6) Nargunda is very nearby and we listened to its history and struggles as well
from a writer who participated in this. The farmers were levied with undue
taxes . Some what similar to Gandhi's struggle in Champrahan to protect the
rights of peasants in indigo plantations; the writer discussed the current
situation of farmers - who had to migrate distances in search of jobs without
much benefit for odd construction and road making jobs .
while we struggle from freedom in knowledge domain. for some people they needed
to and still struggle for survival itself.
[ if u read till here - then tell me what u think on point 6 in a private mail
