Whoever coined this phrase - linux lingam - it is inappropriate as it does
not have any connection to the issues related to linux and is to my mind
obnoxious. I don't know why noone else has objected yet - please change it.

No the learning curve is not a deterrent, as in learning linux tools
is not more complicated than the doze tools. Both would take the same
amount of time.
But having invested in one tool a user will not invest his time in
learning a second tool.
How is that contradictory?

the knowledge gained of the underlying concepts and workflows from one tool and
platform usually roll to the other.
if you've cut your teeth with doze, exploder, and an office suite,
it takes almost no time to adapt to say ubuntu, firefox, and openoffice.org

ditto for graphics and multimedia authoring,
so please don't consider this a big issue.
