The whole discussion is about schools, not universities. I am specifically speaking about replacing parts of the course content with computer based activities. Even in the best of situations, where the state of syllabus is quite conducive for such use, the academia tends to prefer a supplementary role (for such use). Simply having presentations of course material in any format does not help interaction. The various simulation kind of s/w do help. Assuming the syllabus is fine, the main problems would be in standardisation of activities, evaluation of activities and building suitable pools. For example, the open ended nature of tools can easily lead to situations where teachers may not be able to decide on 'the specific' concept formation or maturation. Best A. Mani -- A.
