My experience also.  At a rough estimate, from Ideal Computing 50% more
than for their ready-made systems.

That is quite likely.  I recently bought a Toshiba laptop from PC World and
told them I would be wiping Windows and installing Linux.  They refused to give
me any guarantee, even though it was just the hardware that needed to be 
covered.
Not unexpected.
