A kind advice : When posting to the newbie list, please blank out
your "reply to" field in your browser. If not, our answers go
directly to you, not he list, thus eliminating the whole idea of a
list. Besides, you'll probably get duplicate answers to the same
question, because others can't see previous answers.
BTW : The "Kill" icon isn't standard anymore in recent versions.
The skull does nothing more than just kill the actual application
(removing it from memory). The app is still there on your drive.
You can produce the same effect by pressing <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Esc>
simultaneously. Or, if you prefer to kill an invisible process, try
to open a Konsole (terminal session) and type "top". Here all
processes will show. Type "k"+ process ID and the process will
terminate.
As always in linux, the same effect can be accomplished in
innumerable ways.
