just curious, is this one of the possible reasons some of (if not all)
of the most experienced, most helpful people on these Mandriva lists
(newbie and expert at least) are not responding to posts anymore?

Seems at least top posting has gone off the deep end, not following the
html stuff - but I used to come here to try to read and learn. KInda
hard to do that even when some people seem to prefer to top post -
against mailing list Etiquette, then just when you least expect it,
they bottom post.

Confusing.

Noticed Hawkwind apparently wont reply to posts anymore because of the
top posting habits. Bummer, I would like to feed off your knowledge
man.

Even a couple of others who have aparently been wround the
*unix/newsgroups world's for awhile should know better - but instead
choose their own liking.

Bummer, I really miss some of the valuable input here by "people in the
know" - or is there another reason they are not posting?

Curious, are people being plonked because of top posting for example?

Don't really think so.

I for one don't answer certain posts/questions for a number of reasons:

- I think the subject should be answered by some one else, more qualified.
- The asker obviously hasn't "googled" around.
- the asker asks too many different but closely connected questions. simultaneously. Tends to get messy.
- when questions are posted here and on "expert" simultaneously.
-I'm away or even asleep ;-)

Don't forget people are here on a voluntary basis and bad etiquette puts a definite strain on the goodwill.

I've come into this thread late. I started using mandriva in about February/March this year. When I joined the list I was guilty of both top posting, and using html. A couple of polite reminders were sent to me about the list etiquette. I had no problem with that. Generally when we join any group we become aware of the groups "rules" and requirements. This is so in the sporting world, business and any other type of recreational group. I don't see any problem in doing it here.

As to "plonking". I assume this means being impolite in some way. I have found the responses to be almost *always* helpful and polite, supportive and educational. I also think the listers are generally very tolerant, and have the right not reply, if they so choose - because of the many reasons given prior to my post.

I'd like to add a "thank you" to the many people who do give their time to help newbies like me.
