Sorry Yes it is a IDE raid controller. I had Lilo originally running but
when it stalled I changed to GRUB hoping that would solve it but no
joy! As I said in another post I am for the time being running 2007
through a proxy sever which also has all my other stuff on it so not
need now to do a bunch of re-booting I have emailed you privately
regarding these matters and sincerely appreciate the help. Please don't
rush with the answers as I know you also have a busy life. Looks like I
will have to start a Linux group in town here to get local support LOL
Really not a bad thought though and just might consider it - Johnny

Still having a boot problem. Got to work this morning and booted the
machine (I had changed from LiLo to GRUB GUI) and got a GRUB error

again.... Here's the system ...
Dell Dimension XPS T600 (600 MHz) Bio's A04 Ram is 512
X86 Family 6 model 7
HDD IBM DPTA-373420 (running XP Pro - no problems)
Maxtor 6L080J4 (Runs Mandriva - Boot problem)
Video All-in-Wonder 128 Pro ultra AGP
Monitor View Sonic E655-2
SCSI Raid Controller Ultra IDE (not Used)
This install is from the live CD Mandriva One 2007 which was downloaded
from the Internet as a try before buy from the Mandriva site. If anyone
has any more ideals I sure could use some help. Failing that if someone
could tell me how to uninstall Mandriva so I could use this machine as
simply an XP system I will build another computer and install Mandriva
there. Thanks for the help - Johnny

Johnny,
I don't think you should give up on that machine. You should be able to
install Mandriva on it.
I haven't tried the "live" install, so I can't comment on that, but I would
suggest that you download the live 4 cd version from one of the mirrors such
as ftp.free.fr or the like. You don't really need to buy the "full" version
from Mandriva to have a proper system.
When it comes to bootloader setup, in order to simplify things, use LILO and
make sure that the bootloader is written to the MBR.
I am curious about the "SCSI" RAID controller. How can it be "SCSI" and "IDE"
at the same time? Surely you mean it is an IDE RAID controller?

Duncan
