Heh. VMWare is a virtual i386 into which you install whatever x86
OS you want. If Win2K will boot in it (and it will--I've done it),
then anything that runs on Win2K will run within VMWare (within
reason--the kind folks at VMWare have done a naughty thing and are
relying on the layout of some kernel data structures in the guest OS,
as recently discovered by a fellow who tried to get FreeBSD 4.4-RC to
boot within VMWare).
It'll be interesting to see how WINE progresses. If they get
around to Win2K's kernel.dll, then a whole new universe opens up to
those who want to avoid installing Windows (and who want to avoid
dual-booting for otherwise Windows-only applications).
As ar as vs.net goes, I'm allergic to that rot, as is our
company's new chief software architect. :-)
