1. VMware (and Win4Lin, as far as I know) are not emulators - they
create a virtual machine under Linux. In this virtual machine you can
install eg. Windows or DOS just like on a real PC. The OS will believe
that it is alone on the PC.
2. I use VC++, Word etc etc from a virtual machine under VMware 2 - no
problem at all, except that I could use some more RAM.
In my experience the easiest thing is to create a new VM with one or
more virtual disks (which are files in Linux). Then install eg. W2K -
don't let it worry you that it wants to reboot; it will only reboot the
VM. If your machine is on a LAN, configure the VM bridged networking,
else host-only. Piece of cake.
