OK, I'm back and the Friday's bruises are healing...
Sadly, X still doesn't work in root or have a window manager in the
user accounts...

The only error that shows up when I pipe the output is
"not enough disc space in /tmp"

It actually reads "Not enough free disk space on /tmp"

This is very odd, because I emptied /tmp.

As Ted Sprague suggested, I checked the capacity of the / directory.
It is full. It has no files in it that I stored there, I try to save all
my files in my user directory. I have the directory listing available
today and can provide the df and du outputs if needed (probably
on Wednesday).

I looked in root for all files; outside of "core", "nsmail" and
the two piped output text files I can't find any files that don't
seem placed there by X.

If I remove all the X-related files and directories, will that work?
Seems counter-intuitive to remove the files related to the program
I want to run, but you never know.

Again - also, with this installation, I never have been able to get
my user accounts to use X successfully. X starts, but no window
manager comes on - only the blank X screen.

Any guidance on getting the user accounts running a window manager would be
appreciated (preferably, the same display as my root account had)

PS - correction and more info - I'm running RH 6.1 and X 3.3.5

Please be patient with feedback. The system in question is the only one
hooked up
to a modem. At this time, no X, no internet, unless I re-load lynx from my
RH 5.2 CD.
I have to squeeze these e-mails in during quiet minutes at work.
