It looks as if you were using a lower resolution than what your
screen wants you to have. This could be due to you running a lcd
screen (lap top or flat panel) these like best the resolution
they are build for... Look in your screen section you should have
(at least) a subsection display with a mode line, I would just
set the desired resolution on that line. If you have more than
one subsection display, they usually differ by the depth. In that
case set the default depth to the subsection you (or your screen)
likes most... One other (ominous) possibility is that your card is
not recognised and that X gives you 640x480 on a screen which is
made for something a bit better... In such a case another shot at
posting your config and log might help... Lionel
Many thanks. I do now have an XF86Config that works at 1280x1024, which
is probably the best that is possible without modifying the trident
driver. I had assumed that an LCD display would not need a modeline
since its resolution is fixed and things like horizontal and vertical
sync do not have any meaning.
