Hmmm...

Section "Files"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/freefont/"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW/"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/"
        FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"
EndSection

seems to be working OK for me. Where'd you get that bit of info?

OTOH, I just got "pid 47512 (XFree86), uid 0: exited on signal 6 (core
dumped)" when I shut down Netscrape 4.76 and logged out (so I could kill
my Xserver and verify that it would come back OK with the above, it's a
recent change and not well tested). This is 4.1.0 on FreeBSD 4.4.
