Well... you shouldn't buy crap in the first place. Then again, I wouldn't know if it's crap or not since you didn't tell us what you bought and what is in it. > Installed so far 3 different distributions on it and never had a serious > crash (as in everything gets > wiped out). Thing is I RTFM. What manual would that be? :-) > How anybody can just download a distro and get it to work without a > manual is beyound me. It's pretty simple actually... If you bought recent hardware and the distro's don't include that hardware yet, you'll have to tweak a lil.... If it is in there you shouldn't have any problems. I usually use slackware which has a text based install and has no problems on newer hardware. Then again, for the average new-comer to linux it will be WAY too difficult. > Problem is that in my opinion linux as a system doesnt get represented > correct if you do some > reading about it. Err ok.. > The filesystems are different on the distributions. Many included > programs (especially multimedia) > just dont work because things are missing e.g. win32dlls or plugins. I have no experience with wine... If you are trying to run windows crap on linux you're on the wrong mailing list in the first place. > If you than try to get it to work you find ot that the - incomplete - > programs dont work if you > put the missing parts in the default places. Did you really RTFM? Usually you need to add paths to either $LD_LIBRARY_PATH or to /etc/ld.so.conf for the library dirs. > So the only thing left to do is download the whole thing - now that > doesnt make a lot of sense. Err, if you use stuff that comes with a distribution your libraries should be in place, assuming you didn't uncheck any of the required packages. Then again, we don't even know what distro you are trying to run. > Plus if you are as stupid as I am you better pray that you find a rpm > that works on your distro. Dunno, I use tar balls. > If you have to compile as a newbie you are usually dead in the water. Yea some times you are, however, if you read the manual you usually don't have to do really friggin' things. Mostly I just type (after reading INSTALL) ./configure make make install and that mostly works..... that really ain't that hard :-) > I dont mind. Never had so much fun for so little money. But if > somebodies life depends on his > PC he should better know what he is in for! You're doing an awful lot of yelling for somebody who's having that much fun :-) then again, I don't know anybody whose life depends on his computer and I'm pretty addicted :-) Then again, if you life depends on it, don't fuck with it if it ain't broke. Btw, nice little email you sent here, but we: 1. Still don't know what your problem is. 2. Have no clue why you are emailing us 3. Can't make out what you are using 4. Other than know you want things to work have no idea what you want.
