I think what happened was it did work is 'some' cases on 'some' distros. I
started fooling around with Mandrake because of reports it was working. I had
no luck with 8.0, but when 8.1 was released it was detected during install
and booted right up, but the GUI would lock at least once a day. After
replacing it with an older rage, the lockups stoped. Now I see the new
version is getting raves from the radeon users, I will wait just a little
longer to make the change. If you look in the archives of this list, you will
find a large amount of problems related to Radeon. My mistake was I did not
look at the list before making the purchase, but Xfree.org said it was
supported, so why should I look on the list...live and learn. Please don't
get me wrong, I'm commited to linux and though I have 25boxes here at the
home office, not one of them runs windoze. I just think that is up to us, in
the open-source community, to try and make it as easy as posible for the
newbie to succeed.
