No, the separate XF86_xxxx servers was version 3.  For XFree86 versions
greater than 4.0, there's only one server called XFree86, and drivers
for different equipment are loaded dynamically from
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules.

I'm sorry I can't help you any more than that.  It sounds to me like a
real bug, not just a misconfiguration.
