Hi

I guess this is a priliminary question really, just to make sure I don't
waste anyones time.

I have an old compaq deskpro 590 which I use as a Linux server. I recently
bought 2 cheap 8MB S3 video cards which I installed in the machine. (Both
identical, on the supported list).

These are plug and play cards, and when I install them the bios states that
there may "confilict with each other, is this a problem?" This is in terms
of the lower dos memory ranges.

However in Linux the scanpci seems to indicate that the cards are recognised
as separate resources. Additionally I can configure either card to work
individually with either card, but not together under X. Trying to configure
the second card causes the entire machine to hang, requiring a hard reboot.

I guess before I loose another couple of days on this, does anyone know if
what I am doing is possible. I.e would I need a newer machine with a plug
and play bios to configure these cards on to separate resources, or is the
bios a red herring.

I can provide more info if needed, thank you in advance for your help.

Regds

Rob
