I lived in Huston for one year back in 1980. Aside from the oppressive humidity, well not aside but along with the oppressive humidity is the foul mildew that is pervasive, covering everything outdoors and indoors if you don't constantly clean and run an air-conditioner. the outdoors is permanently mildewed except for a few weeks in winter when it dries up a bit. the only way a person could live there on a permanent basis is to be born there. Just like living in the frozen tundra you only last if you were born there and don't know any better.
