I finally was able to start my '82 CB450SC this weekend. I bought it
after it was sitting in my friend's garage for about 5-6 years. He
originally garaged it with an intermittent starter problem, saying that
he could hear the starter spin, but the engine wouldn't turn over. When
I got the bike, the starter was missing, so I picked up a used one from
the local salvage yard, and installed it. After finishing dealing with
the rust in my tank, and making sure my carbs aren't all nastied up, I
got it running. Took a couple of attempts, but it started, and ran for
about a minute. I then turned it off, and attempted to start it up
again a couple of minutes later. Now, it appears that the starter
problem that it was originally garaged with is back. If I try to turn
the bike over, I can hear the starter whirring, but not engaging. I
pulled the starter out to make sure that the teeth were all still there,
and they are.
Any ideas?
