Here's a tip that may save you some grief later:

There's an o-ring and a nylon filter "sleeve" that fits down over the
brass tube and seats down in the body of the petcock.  It's a press
fit kind of an assembly and is held in place by the same large nut
that holds the petcock to the tank.

Make sure that's in place before you insert the tube into the tank
fitting, then push the whole assembly up into the tank with your
thumbs (fitting looks like a piece of threaded pipe).

Also make sure the petcock is square to the tank and facing you when
you do this, so it doesn't require twisting the assembly back and
forth to get it aligned properly, after you've started snugging the
big nut.

If you have to twist the petcock back and forth to align it, you risk
tearing, shredding or twisting the nylon filter, like the previous
owner did to mine (!)
