I would take it off since it's relatively easy to do. Cleaning it
isn't hard. The trick is drying it out thoroughly so any left over gas
doesn't ignite.. I used a hair dryer for this, warm dry air evaporated
all of the gas. There's some debate about whether or not to coat the
inside of the tank. If it's not rusted you may not need to. If it is
rusted make sure you clean it thoroughly and do a good job. Make sure
the coating sticks.
