Wood covered in cloth and painted with dope, like the old days. I usually design them in cad then plug in the design numbers in a flight simulator and test, then build and modify if I'm not satisfied. I spent a lot of time studying aircraft design a couple years ago, by building you're own designs it expands the experience greatly. It is satisfying seeing you're idea coming to fruition.
