So did the shop give you a thorough diagnosis of the problem, or are they just guessing?
>From what you describe, it sounds like gas got into the crankcase due to the carb problem and diluted the oil. That in itself should not have caused the kind of damage they're describing, unless you rode it like that for awhile.
